What is the Wage Protection System?

The Wage Protection System (WPS) is an initiative by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD) to ensure workers receive their wages on time and in the agreed-upon amount.

Core Rules

Rule Details
Bank Transfer All salaries must be paid through approved banking channels
Payment Timing Salary must be paid within 7 days maximum from the due date
Mandatory Registration All establishments with 1 or more employees must register in the system
Transparency The transferred amount must match the salary registered in the employment contract

Non-Compliance Penalties

  • Financial Fines: Up to 10,000 SAR per employee whose salary was not paid through the system
  • Nitaqat Downgrade: Downgrading the establishment's classification in the Nitaqat program
  • Work Permit Suspension: Preventing the establishment from issuing or renewing work permits
  • Service Suspension: Suspending all HRSD services for the establishment
  • Legal Referral: Referral to relevant authorities in cases of repetition or serious violations
