💾 Data Storage Converter - Bytes, KB, MB, GB, TB
Quick conversion between digital storage units
📌 Notes
- 1 byte = 8 bits
- Binary (1024) is used in operating systems; SI (1000) is used in marketing
Data Storage Unit Converter
This converter translates between digital storage units such as bits, bytes, kilobytes (KB), megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB), terabytes (TB), and petabytes (PB). Enter a value in any unit and the tool instantly shows the equivalent in every other unit, which is handy when you are sizing files, planning disk space, or comparing memory and bandwidth figures.
The core relationships are simple once you know them: one byte equals eight bits, and each larger unit is built up from the one below it. In the decimal (SI) system each step multiplies by 1,000, so 1 KB is 1,000 bytes and 1 MB is 1,000 KB. In the binary system used by many operating systems each step multiplies by 1,024, which is why a drive sold as 500 GB often shows slightly less usable space.
Practical Uses
Use it to estimate how many photos or songs fit on a memory card, to convert a download size into seconds at a given connection speed, or to check whether an email attachment fits within a size limit. Because the math runs in your browser, results appear immediately with no upload of your data.
