BMI is a measure used to assess whether your weight is healthy relative to your height. It is calculated by dividing weight in kg by height in meters squared. It is a guideline indicator, not a medical diagnosis.

Normal BMI ranges from 18.5 to 24.9. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25-29.9 is overweight, 30-34.9 is Class I obesity, 35-39.9 is Class II obesity, 40+ is Class III (severe) obesity.

BMI does not account for body composition (muscle vs fat ratio). Athletes may show high BMI despite having low body fat. Elderly and children have different criteria.
