The VAT rate in Saudi Arabia is 15% since July 2020. It applies to most goods and services. It was previously 5% and was increased as part of revenue enhancement measures.

To add VAT: multiply price × 1.15. To extract VAT from inclusive price: divide by 1.15 then subtract result from original price. Example: product at SAR 100 + VAT = SAR 115.

Exempt goods include: financial services, life insurance, residential property rental, public healthcare, government education, and some medical supplies. Exports outside the Kingdom are subject to 0% rate.

Yes, VAT-registered businesses can recover input VAT paid on purchases through tax returns. Tourists currently cannot claim VAT refunds in Saudi Arabia.

Mandatory registration is required if annual revenue exceeds SAR 375,000. Optional registration is available if revenue exceeds SAR 187,500. Businesses below that are exempt from registration.
